This wine is only available in wooden cases of 12 bottles each.

2003 was a torrid vintage in Bordeaux – the heat and drought were so severe in August that photosynthesis stopped in the vines, it was only after a splash of rain in very early September that they kick started again. As a consequence sugar levels were naturally high and acidity levels very low – the danger of flabby wines was a distinct possibility but canny producers cross blended some back vintage (permitted up to 10%) to give the wines freshness and structure, and the results have been remarkably delicious.

Mature claret at a keen price which is drinking extremely well. The wine is opaque with a dark ruby core fading to a narrow brick rim. Dense rich nose with a real signature of Bordeaux. The palate is ripe, dense and chocolatey with very moreish fruit. Oak can be felt on the finish, this will marry up very well with roast meat and traditional cheeses – Fabulous over Christmas!

Côtes de Cambeau has been owned by the same family for three generations and is currently run by Alain and Christophe Baudet. The property extends to 12 hectares in the north of the appellation and is planted 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon with an average age of 20 years.
